In a cauldron, put in the essence of an ultra-modern city, flavors of Middle East and a dash of exuberance. The aroma wafts to transform itself into an amazing city called Abu Dhabi.
Post card perfect, it has so much to offer.
A mere 2 hour drive from Dubai, the sprawling multi-lane highway zips through the desert. Sighting Abu Dhabi at a distance felt so surreal: like a dream city had been dropped in the middle of those vast desert lands.
Dropped in front of Marina mall, we decided to check out the most tourist-y option they had.
Big tour bus, at 220 AED, was offering to cover the “tourist places” of the city. As usual, we simply decided to skip it and make our own itinerary.
Here are some of the activities I would recommend as “must do” in Abu Dhabi.
Grand Sheikh Zayed Mosque
The grand mosque is a sheer beauty to see: pristine white structure standing tall against the azure seamless sky. This is the largest mosque in the UAE, known to have been built over a period of 9 years.
The architecture is an absolute marvel: marble floored, ceilings are adorned with dazzling chandeliers. Water pools adjacent to the columns make them look picture-perfect.
Though dressing modestly is mandatory, wearing an abaya (burqha) is optional. In the spirit of soaking in the culture, we decided to garb ourselves in the flowy abaya.
Though a hotel, tourists throng this place just to marvel at this sheer Arabic indulgence. The suites and residences in this hotel, classified as 7-star, are known to be decked with gold and marble.
After clicking photos, we went inside to have the famous camelchino. It is a cappuccino made with Camel milk and hold your breath, sprinkled with real gold flakes.
The frothy, delicious camelchino is accompanied with a date and a piece of dark chocolate.
For a more laid-back experience one needs to head to Abu Dhabi corniche. It is a long pathway that runs adjacent to the beach.
With pretty fountains and greenery, this is a place to take a leisure stroll or just relax on the park benches. With towering sky scrapers on one side and golden sands and pristine blue waters on the other side, this is definitely a vista to remember.
One can even rent bicycles or 4-wheel cycles and just ride away to glory.
Right opposite to the Marina mall, there is a huge ferris wheel. What is special about a ferris wheel ride? The altitude it goes to give a glimpse of this decked up city is exhilarating. One is surely bound to be awestruck by the razzmatazz of the city lit up below.
The ride lasts for about 6 minutes and goes 4 rounds and costs 50 AED per person.
The other attraction which most people vouch for here is the Ferrari world. Known to have the fastest roller coaster in the world, this is the place which will keep the adrenaline rush all-time high.
This place is a feast for all the F1 aficionados and adventure junkies alike.
Though I didn’t exactly go on a shopping spree, I thoroughly enjoyed whatever limited shopping I did in Marina mall. There were whopping discounts and in that small time frame that I had, I loaded my cart with pretty tops from Promod(They were all below 18 USD!!!).
Dont forget to let me know your thoughts on Abu Dhabi.
